Welcome to the world of Tattoo Jew. A place where the ink is kosher, the people are fascinating and the images are unique. Tattoo Jew explores the stories of people who get tattoos to honor their roots, express their pride, defy anti-Semitism, and to connect with their faith in a tangible way. These individuals respect tradition but they aren’t confined to the synagogue. This ain’t your grandma’s Judaism. To these tattooed Jews this is a new Jewishness that is more accessible and meaningful than their previous experiences with religion.
The interview subjects in Tattoo Jew have struggled emotionally and put a great deal of thought into getting tattoos in the context of controversy and opposition. In the end each of them has chosen to wear their identity for the whole world to see, permanently etched in ink upon their skin.
